Watching the Coronavirus: so you don’t have to

The ultrastructural morphology exhibited by the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV), which was identified as the cause of an outbreak of respiratory illness first detected in Wuhan, China, is seen in an illustration released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia, U.S. January 29, 2020. Quick Glance: what you need to know

  • If you get coronavirus, the odds are in your favor that you are going to be OK
  • You have to meet criteria to be tested
  • Fatalities in the US are at this time low
  • At this time, there is not a critical shortage for ICU beds for patients with coronavirus that are in respiratory distress requiring a ventilator to breath
  • The purpose of social isolation precautions (school closings, canceling of sports events) is to remove the link in the chain of infection to prevent vulnerable populations from getting sick and dying
  • There is not cure of coronavirus; just like all viruses, there is not cure; antibiotics don’t cure viruses – antibiotics are only effective in treating bacterial infections
  • How do people die from coronavirus? The get severe pneumonia in both sides of their lungs and they can’t breath
